The Sequoias are one of the first things to greet you when you arrive through the gates of Ashe Hall. The huge tree lining the driveway are over 150 years old. These originate on the western side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains CA, USA. Some of them growing in the Sequoia National Park are big enough to drive a car through and weigh over 1000 tons; they live for up to 3000 years.

The tree was introduced into Britain in 1853 when it was given the English name Wellingtonia in honour of the Duke of Wellington (1769-1852).

Take a stroll around the sun-soaked herb garden. It is generously planted with purple sage, ginger mint, lavender, marjoram, chamomile and chives. The herb garden gives off a heady aroma throughout the summer months.
